The Store

The Wonder of Science Store was founded by Paul and Laura Andersen. Launched in 2024, our inaugural product, Switch-Its, marks the beginning of our journey. Switch-Its are a set of magnetic dry-erase boards designed for systems thinking.  

The Pandemic

The design of Switch-Its started during the pandemic. In an era of remote learning, we hosted professional development sessions for teachers via Zoom. It was during these sessions that we explored the creation of educational manipulatives using simple materials like paper, wood, and magnets. We bought a 3-D printer, enabling us to make the first prototypes of what would eventually evolve into Switch-Its.

 

The Kickstarter

After the pandemic our workshops returned to in-person where we featured the prototypes in our professional training. Teachers constantly came up after sessions to inquire about purchasing the manipulatives. We ran a Kickstarter Project to judge interest and raise money for injection molds. David Yakos at Salient Technologies, in Bozeman, Montana, helped us finalize our design.
